Met during the participation in the iF Design Awards gala ceremony and press tour, ANALOG is a contemporary brand from Berlin, specializing in objects crafted from handmade glass. Established in 2019, this innovative label is headquartered in the ‘San Gimignano Lichtenberg’ prototyping workshop, a former industrial site transformed by the architects b+.

The trio leading ANALOG—Birgitta Homburger, Philipp Weber, and Julius Terlinden—collaborates with a broad network of experts. Their goal is to redefine craftsmanship for the modern era, amidst the rapid progression of digital and virtual technologies.

The craft of glassmaking merges meticulous precision with imaginative spontaneity. ANALOG’s collections emerge from a dynamic exchange with craftsmen, artists, designers, and creatives across Europe. The studio sparks conversations about creative techniques and pioneers cutting-edge practices, envisioning a new future for this esteemed craft.

INITÏ collection by Birgitta Homburger

This collection features mirrors crafted using a sophisticated and rare glassmaking technique. Each piece is constructed from a special kind of hand-blown flat glass typically found in church windows. With designs that range from partially graphic to fully mirrored, the collection showcases the material’s unique colors. These authentic glass hues are produced by specific oxides within the glass. The interplay of reflections with the distinct clarity, brightness, and vibrancy of the glass colors adds a playful quality to the collection.

LOLA by Gonzalez Haase AAS

The fusion of light and architecture was central to the architecture studio’s approach to spatial design. Crafting triangular or geometric shapes from mouth-blown glass presented a physical challenge, given the material’s natural propensity for round forms. The modular design of the luminaires allowed them to be mounted on the wall in any desired configuration. Both LOLA Wall and LOLA Floor were equipped with a dimmable LED lighting system.

SOBO by Shantala Chandel & Matthias Gschwendtner

The SOBO collection is founded on the technique of manipulating hot, viscous glass with a specially designed tool. This tool impresses a distinctive indentation, turning a simple glass bubble into a functional item. The gentle lines and curves formed through this method define the SOBO carafes, which are available in three enchanting colors: rosé, capri blue, and clear.

OMAM by Studio Philipp Weber

The rhythmic movements of the glassmaker are distinctly captured in the OMAM collection, evident in every pendant light, side table, and vase. The glassblower’s bodily motions are mirrored in the shapes and folds of the material. Each creation results in unique, captivating optical distortions due to the maker’s choreography. The pendant lights enhance this effect as they bend and refract light, while the vases and side tables capture and reflect their environment. Every piece in the OMAM collection embodies the dance with the molten glass.
